Areas of Concentration and Research Lines

The Graduate Program in Computational and Systems Biology of the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (PGBCS/IOC/Fiocruz) presents three concentration areas: Structural Molecular Biology, Functional Genomics, Evolution and Phylogenomic and Information Systems and Mathematical, Statistical and Computational Methods. These areas include six research lines, listed below:

Research lines in Structural Molecular Biology:
- Computational approaches in the development of drugs and vaccines
- Structure, dynamics and function of biomacromolecules

Research lines in Functional Genomics, Evolution, and Phylogenomic:
- Genome, Transcriptome, Proteome, and Metabolome
- Evolution, Phylogeny, and Biodiversity

Research lines in Information Systems and Mathematical, Statistics and Computing Methods:
- Mathematical, Statistical and Computational methods and approaches
- Analysis, distribution, management and data manipulation

 

Mandatory subjects for all concentration areas of the program
Systems Biology (2 credits)
Research Methodology (2 credits)
Qualifying Exam I (1 credit)
Qualifying Exam II (obligatory only for doctoral students) (1 credit)
Didactic Subject (2 credits) (only for doctoral fellows from CAPES agency)
